I preferred the kind of MDF you get from a cabinet shop. I used a lot of 3/4 MDF from LOWES, but the best stuff can only be gotten at a cabinet shop. The cabinet shop has MDF that is 1 inch thick and is actually a little larger then 48 inches wide.
