Jan 29, 2022     Wing cart from wing crate       Category: Wings
The wings are going to need stored for a long time while the fuselage is completed. This wing cart is from plans stored on the rv10.org website. I salvaged some wood from the wing crate and supplemented with some Lowe's lumber.

Jan 25, 2022     New right spar arrived       Category: Wings
It was a bit of a wait but the spar replacement is here. The inventory is complete and everything looks great. Certainly took a really close look at the step bars for any tooling marks. It is perfect. It is noticeable that the spar comes from a different batch than the previous spar. The alodine color is slightly darker than the left spar.

Jan 22, 2022     Left wing top skin complete       Category: Wings
The left top skin is completely riveted. It isn't perfect but it came out real nice. We learned a lot about what works for us and what doesn't. So far, everything we have done is to plans without modifications

Jan 09, 2022     Top skin riveting       Category: Wings
Julie is becoming a master riveter. She worked on inserting rivets and I would follow up taping them in with some rivet tape. She ran the gun while I stood on the bench and worked the bucking bar. It took some practice to work on our communication skills so we would know which rivet, both are ready, and how many hits before stopping the set. We had a few problem rivets along the way but there was noticeable improvements in our working together. We also tried a few techniques with back riveting but ultimately found regular flush set riveting worked best for the two of us.

Nov 27, 2021     Bad news on the spar       Category: Wings
While fitting the ribs to the spar I noticed something I should have when doing inventory and inspecting parts. But here I am, many hours into countersinking and fastening nut plates. The solid step bars coming from Vans has some serious tooling marks. I conferred with Vans support and they told me I would need a new spar. They have made it right and are doing what is needed to send me the new spar and hardware.

Nov 13, 2021     Deburring and fit the ribs       Category: Wings
Spent loads of hours deburring the edges and the lightening holes of all the ribs. Yet another task that just felt as though there was no end. With the debur done I continued to fit the ribs in the spar and prepare the other parts.

Nov 07, 2021     Installed SB 18-03-30       Category: Empennage
When I ordered the wing I had vans go ahead and send the SB 18-03-30 kit. There will be no easier time than now to get this installed. So, done.

Oct 28, 2021     Mating the tailcone and empennage       Category: Empennage
The workbench was getting full so it was time to move the tailcone and empennage off the workbench to a bigger space. I was able to get some real good measurements and fit the horizontal stab to the tailcone. The vertical stab was next. It was a great feeling seeing all the parts come together

Oct 18, 2021     Endless spar csk       Category: Wings
Decided I would start in on the spar work until I could get some help on the remaining empennage tasks. The countersinking is a seemingly endless task. I just put on some opposing bases podcast and enjoyed the monotonous task.
