Oct 01, 2023     Laser-Cut Parts replacement request and portal Category: Wings

Spent a few hours today going over the list of parts from Van's they are recommending for replacement and for possible use. I'm struggling with their recommendations and may just order all new parts to replace the LCP's.

It has been a while since I've made an entry, but I have been working on the plane and will be making a bunch of posts updating my progress. One big challenge I have is taking pictures of myself while working.

Inserted the front spar into the horizontal stabilizer skins today, cleco'd assembly and riveted to the nose ribs.

  Apr 10, 2020     Inboard Hinge Bracket Assembly - (1 hour)       Category: Empennage

Spent some time in the basement shop working on the Inboard Hinge bracket installing the bearing between the two brackets. This was a pretty easy step, but I did notice the powder coating has a flaw in it where the bearing sits. Other builders have complained about rust forming under the powder coating so I'm going to sand this area down and prime them when I prime the rear spar, hopefully next weekend.

Used the drill press to match drill the rear spar and doubler. Also final drilled(used the reamer) all holes and prepped Hinge brackets for riveting. Disassembled so I can scuff powder coating and prep all parts for priming before riveting parts together.

I was lucky enough to get a GOLDEN TICKET from Van's for a discount on my Empennage kit so I decided now is the time to get started. I'm not quite ready for the project to begin but no sense in wasting $250. I was in Portland on a business trip so I made a side trip to the factory, placed my order in person, and enjoyed a tour of the facilities.
