Jan 11, 2021     Rebuild - (3 hours) Category: Landing Gear
Rebuild of landing gear with thicker tubing complete for right gear and half way for the left.

Mar 21, 2020     Right Gear Leg Finish Weld - (3 hours)       Category: Landing Gear
Finish weld on the rear, right gear leg. Normalized.

Feb 14, 2020     More Re-Work. - (4 hours)       Category: Landing Gear
Still working on upgrading the landing gear to tubing thicknesses recommended by the Newsletters and other builders. So, recap, originally built with .049 wall thickness. There were some built with .065 - might be .065, but I'm not taking the chance. Rebuilding it with .095 in the main tube. Anyway. This is the latest. Welded the upper reinforcement strap over the tube.

Dec 26, 2019     Rear Gear Leg and Main Leg Weld - (6 hours)       Category: Landing Gear
Finish welding on axle joint for right and left gear leg to the axles. Welded reinforcing tabs to left axle. Started rear gear leg for right axle. Had to make it twice since I cut it wrong. Love throwing away $40. Not ready to tack weld, but getting close.

Dec 12, 2019     Tack welded Left .win Gear Leg - (.5 hour)       Category: Landing Gear
Quick tack weld, angle check and prep for drilling top end for the mount bushing.

Dec 11, 2019     Starting the Left Landing Gear Leg and Axle - (0.5 hour)       Category: Landing Gear
Drilled and milled the inside end of the axle shaft and cut/coped the main tube in preparation for tack welding.

Nov 16, 2019     Landing Gear Main Tube Upper Bushing - (2 hours)       Category: Landing Gear
Drilled pilot hole using a drill guide that was leveled evenly with the axle shaft. Used hole drilled in the workbench as a jig and for alignment. Attached 1/2" tubing with a tack weld after cutting the tube to length and to the correct angles for the doubler. Made final weld.

Nov 09, 2019     Front Tube of Right Gear - (2 hours)       Category: Landing Gear
Began cutting and welding or right gear leg. 1.25 x .095 4130 tubing. 52-degree angle. Took a while to figure it out, but it matches the plans. Drilled a 3/8" hole in the inside of the axle and a corresponding hole in my workbench. Hole is true by the use of a drill block. Bolt inserted through the axle will ensure proper orientation. Coped tubing and tacked it to the axle using my Tig welder. Will pre-heat before final weld.

Oct 12, 2019     Cutting and milling back of axle shaft. - (2 hours)       Category: Landing Gear
Cut the Axle shaft to 10" and then cut out and milled the inboard section so I can weld the doublers in place.

Aug 17, 2019     Firewall Template - (3 hours)       Category: Fuselage
Made a firewall mock-up out of 1/2" ply and poster board. It will serve as a pattern for the stainless firewall and a jig for welding the engine mount. It will also aid in positioning accessories, electrics, and pass-throughs for controls.
