Jan 03, 2020     PREPARING THE WING RIBS Category: Wings
PITA! Lots of deburring, straitening, cleaning and priming. It's very important to pay attention to what rib goes where and which direction the flanges face.

Jan 02, 2020     ASSEMBLING THE REAR SPARS Category: Wings
Deburred all the pieces/parts and cut the holes for the aileron pushrods. Disassembled, cleaned, primed and riveted pieces back together. Pretty straightforward work. It's important to pay attention to the dimpling of the rear spar flanges. You don't have great access once the fork is riveted in place. Also take some time and pay attention to the flight control bracket riveting order. It's easy work but the order of operations is very important here.

Jan 01, 2020     PREPARING THE MAIN SPARS Category: Wings
Looked everything over. Van's did a really good job riveting the spar assy's together. Very professional results. The spars were then clean and primed with epoxy primer.

Attached the nutplates for the fuel tanks and lower access panels. The plans were straight forward. I did touch up the countersinks with primer added PS 870 sealant between the steel nutplates and installed the rivets wet for enhanced corrosion protection.

Finished up the prep on the main spars by fabricating the tie down assy', then cleaning and priming them. I ordered the closed ring tie downs PN Eye 3/8x16TD from Van's accessory catalog. After all this was done I discovered that Cleveland Aircraft Tool has these already tapped and ready to go with red tie down rings.... oh well haha.
