Apr 28, 2024     Certification       Category: Inspection
Had the honor of DAR Joe Norris doing the certification inspection. He just had to find ONE loose jam nut. 😣

Apr 09, 2024     First engine start attempt 2 Category: Engine
Successful engine start.

Apr 01, 2024     Throttle cable replacement       Category: Engine
When I was troubleshooting the TBI problem, I noticed the throttle cable would flex where it was connected to the forward throttle quadrant. It's an area where the internal wire is exposed from the sheath on a Bowden cable. I replaced it with a cake type that has bulkhead fittings on both ends. Much more robust

Mar 14, 2024     Rocker cover gaskets       Category: Engine
Three of the rocker covers on my engine were set up such that the o ring gaskets that are used were positioned where they were completely exposed and not sealing the covers at all. Just with turning the prop over with the starter and plugs removed they were leaking a significant amount of oil. I decided to replace all the gaskets with silicone gaskets available on Amazon. I think it's the best $100 investment I've made for the engine. Not a drop since

Mar 07, 2024     Hinge repair       Category: Empennage
I found that the left elevator was binding a tad on full up deflection. The cause was a slight bow in the leading edge tube of the elevator. I noticed that the gap between the trailing edge of the stabilizer and leading edge of the elevator was narrower at the root end hinge vs the outboard hinge. Unfortunately, that inboard hinge was drilled making too narrow a gap. I repaired it by filling out the holes in the hinge on the front edge of the hole so the hinge could move back. Then I made two washers out of 4130 and drilled them to the bolt size. The elevator was placed with the corrrct gap and then these washers or doublers were welded in place. Worked well, no binding.

Mar 01, 2024     TBI troubleshoot       Category: Engine
Determined the culprit causing no fuel getting through the TBI was a defunct diaphragm in the fuel regulator. My TBI had sat on the shelf for 9 years with no fuel going through it. This allowed the flexible diaphragm to dry out and get brittle. Replaced the diaphragm as well as the flow valve and all is good in the world again

Feb 21, 2024     First engine start attempt       Category: Engine
Attempted first engine start. Unsuccessful due to no fuel getting to the engine.

Feb 17, 2024     Weight and balance       Category: Fuselage
Weighed Patience and came in at 1088. Classics are a little heavier than CB1s, and this weight is within reason. I used some digital scales I got fro Amazon for $60 each. They have a 600 lb each capacity. Worked great. They aren't too tall, so I made some Ramos to get the main wheels on them.

Feb 15, 2024     Name       Category: Fuselage
The name “Patience “ is now official.

Feb 12, 2024     Mounted prop       Category: Propeller
Mounted the Culver 84x53 prop
