Mar 04, 2022     Spar plates for second main spar - (8 hours)       Category: Wings
Hand cut and cleaned up next set of main spar plates

May 27, 2021     Finished 1st Main Spar - (4 hours)       Category: Wings
Just a quick update. One main spar complete!

May 25, 2021     Main Spar #1 near riveted - (30 hours)       Category: Wings
A ton of work, including lightening holes, straightening, cap strip fitting, splice plate and end connectors. Then some riveting fun! A 4X gun for this one was needed, some of these are AN470AD5-16 rivets. Tons of fun!

Mar 17, 2021     Wing Spar Catchup 1 - (23 hours)       Category: Wings
Part one of the first main spar. So much work! But so, we previously had some channels bent to match the required width and angles. Now, I pulled them down and started a few things. First, I measured and cut some of the spar connector plates for the spars. Since this is a scratch build, I'm not using the perfect templates from the drawings, but custom sized ones for the spar sizes I have. So using the CNC, I've cut and cleaned up the spar plates. Next, I measured and cut the spars for the perfect length. Then, I cut the lightening holes for the spar and started laying out the cap strips for riveting on.

Dec 23, 2020     Center Ribs Finished and Prepped - (14 hours)       Category: Wings
Finished metal forming for center ribs. All flanges are bent and prepping for spraying primer is coming next for all ribs. Also finished root center ribs with primer.

Nov 26, 2020     Finish center rip flanges - (2 hours)       Category: Wings
Finished al of the center rib flanges

Oct 26, 2020     Spar and Cap Strip Priming - (6 hours)       Category: Wings
Decided to go ahead and prime the spars and cap strips. I don't plan on priming everything, but considering the steel that will connect to them with the aileron and flap brackets and whatnot, I could at least prime those. I used some rustoleum self-etching primer, and it seems to have taken really well. I still have to finish up the center ribs, but i'm getting close to wing assembly, which is definitely pretty exciting!

Also, since this is my first entry in the EAA Builders log, I'm waiting on the rest of my logs to be moved over and uploaded through their process.

Sep 21, 2020     Catch Up - (23 hours)       Category: Wings
Catch up log post. Over the course of the past couple months, I've built the center ribs, purchased cap strips, and bought material for spar joints and rear cap strips. Began cutting rear spar cap strips.

*ALSO* Big announcement! I have recently acquired a new plane (Skylane) that made the need to build a 4-place Model B Bearhawk no longer a mission-requirement. I made a compromise, wanting a bush plane but needing the family to be able to fit in it, which brought me to the Bearhawk originally. I have since fallen in love with the whole Bearhawk line, but since the Skylane is the family plane, the project can be strictly bush-style for me. So we've changed to the Bearhawk Patrol. It uses the same wing (except minor changes, but nothing too crazy), so the work isn't lost. So now, that's what this project will continue as!

Mar 06, 2020     Spar Construction - (4 hours)       Category: Wings
Kept my promise. Today my dad came down and helped me bend the spars (and cut them. I swear I thought there was an 8-ft sheer there. Nope! So I hand cut the spars today...). The only spars we didn't do were the flap and aileron spars. Going to be some time now as I have to save up for cap strips, but did order the aluminum for the spar splice plates.
