Feb 02, 2021     Spar assembly       Category: Wings
In this section left and right wing spars are prepped for the attachment of many ribs.

Feb 02, 2021     Center section bulkhead       Category: Fuselage
Work on the center bulkhead assembly started in November 2020. This section included typical deburring and parts prep. The center assembly is mostly complete from the factory with a small amount of construction left to the builder. This part is the base for which all of the fuselage sections attach. Skills used in this section include dimpling, machine countersinking, solid rivet installation as well as cherry-max riveting.

Feb 02, 2021     Mid fuselage ribs & bottom skins       Category: Fuselage
November continues with the mid fuselage ribs and bottom skin section. There is a lot of parts prep involved as this is a very big section. Building progresses with the construction of the baggage area aft of the center bulkhead. this includes many ribs and flooring. After the aft area is installed on to the center bulkhead the forward area is fabricated. This includes seat ribs, seat pans, and forward bulkheads. The section finishes with the installation of the bottom skin. Skills used in this section included, deburring of parts, match drilling, dimpling, machine countersinking, rivet and bolt installation and installation of nutplates.

Jan 26, 2021     Antiservo Tab - (6 hours)       Category: Tail Feathers
The anti servo tab was constructed after completion of the stabilator. This is another very simple section and takes only a few hours to complete. The anti-servo tab serves mainly to make the controls heavier in feel to the pilot and also to increase stability. An anti-servo tab also functions as a trim device to relieve control pressure and maintain the stabilator in the desired position.

Jan 26, 2021     Stabilator - (13.5 hours)       Category: Tail Feathers
Late October 2020 the build starts with one team working on the stabilator and one on the vertical stabilizer.

A stabilator, sometimes referred to as an all-moving tail, is a fully movable aircraft horizontal stabilizer. In this type of installation, the entire horizontal tail surface is responsive to pilot control wheel or control stick inputs versus traditional design combination of horizontal stabilizer and elevator.

The stabilator is a fairly simple assembly that has a main spar box which provides the support for the structure. All of the ribs are attached to the spar box then overlayed with the skins. When the skins are installed the whole structure becomes very rigid. This section provided the student with their first experiences using many tools and processes. Completion of the stabilator was in early November 2020.
