Apr 06, 2024     More finishing work - (14 hours)       Category: Fuselage
Cindy made some templates for the landing gear fairing. Started forming the landing gear fairing. Mounted the 2nd seatbelt bracket. Drilled holes in windshield fairing and made some brackets for the back of the window. Put in nut plates for the brackets and windshield fairing. Glued some aluminum to the wing root covers to mount the fuel sight gauges. Made up the 2nd sight gauge. Install sight gauges

Mar 30, 2024     Seatbelts, windshield fairing cowl door fasteners - (16 hours)       Category: Fuselage
Test fit seatbelt brackets, removed and primed and painted. Received new camlocs from skybolt, adjustable receptacle. Installed on cowl doors and adjusted. Also kept sanding and filling on windshield fairing. Made up sight gauges using 1/2 aluminum tubing and cutting off an edge and installed tubing and 90degree elbows.

Installed windshield. Created fiberglass fairing for windshield with help from Cindy, still finishing. Mounted seatbelt brackets. Still figuring out camloc situation.

Drill windshield. Installed nut plates for windshield attachment. Took in parts to get welded for seat belt attachments.
 
Mar 09, 2024     Engine/windshield seatbelts - (9 hours)       Category: Fuselage
Installed anti splat crankcase breather tube to exhaust. Drilled pilot holes for windshield mounting. Received seat belts, worked on way to mount inertial reels.
Cut template for wing root to reference windshield
Safety wire brake calipers.

Feb 24, 2024     fuselage/engine work - (8 hours) Category: Fuselage
Tap seatbelt mounting holes for pilot seat. Ordered seat belts. Tried a different position for ap roll servo, did not find a better spot, ordered some different bearings. Applied fireseal around engine baffles, and wire pass thru. Rerouted oil cooler line but may need a little longer line.

Talked with a local A&P Daryl Dasher and he came out to look over my work and offer any pointers. Looked good, gave me some more things to tidy up and advice on doing things

Spent time clamping wires and wrapping wires. adjusting anything that might be rubbing and rerouting items
 
Feb 10, 2024     Wiring/ Wing root - (18 hours)       Category: Fuselage
Finished the kydex panels for the wing root. Added the elt switch. Adjusted the rack for the electronics since the engine controls were rubbing. Tidy the wiring, got it all laced.

Feb 02, 2024     Engine/ wing root panels - (12 hours) Category: Engine
Started working on the wing root panels out of kydex. Also made a bracket for the elt switch that will mount one the wing root. Installed rivnuts for the kydex to attach to. Install scat tubing for the carb heat and cabin heat.

Started organizing wires around the engine compartment. Ran wires for the wing lights, nav lights

Jan 13, 2024     Engine work - (12 hours)       Category: Engine
Installed a new exhaust stud on cylinder 3, tightened all exhaust nuts to 17ftlbs. Reinstalled egt probes. Hooked up throttle, mixture, prop, carb heat cables. Routed all spark wires. Installed oil cooler duct. Attached baffling ramp baffles. Ran wires for pitot heat.

Dec 30, 2023     Cowling and exhuast nut work - (9 hours)       Category: Engine
Exhaust nuts were not tightening on cylinders 1,2,3,4,5, outside nut. installed helicoils on 1,2,3,5. Cylinder 4 needs a new stud. Installed oil dipstick access hole in top of cowling. Used a spring hinge and lock on door.

Got instrument panel back from vinyl store, installed back into plane and installed controls. Installed baffling and riveted in place. Torqued prop governor. Installed baffle rods

Prepped panel for vinyl and dropped off at shop. Started doing baffles seals, got most temporary in place. Engine mount covers in place.

Installed gaskets and torqued carburetor and air box. Installed washers and torqued exhaust nuts, outside exhuast nuts for 1,2,3,4,5 would not torque down, need to call Mike and talk to
 
 
Nov 11, 2023     Instrument panel - (8 hours) Category: Instrument Panel
Remove avionics panel to mark out holes for vinyl wrap. Made a reinforced plate to attach the throttle mixture cables on the backside of the panel. Attached nutplates to screw panel to frame. Started riveting top engine cowling.
 
Nov 04, 2023     Engine items - (14 hours)       Category: Engine
Made air intake, took a couple of tries to get it good. Installed oil, fuel and manifold hoses. Installed starter and alternator cables. Installed exhaust mufflers, started fitting brackets. Attached carb heat cable.

Cut hole in lower cowling for intake, temporarily attached intake scoop, started designing the intake and the filter

Oct 21, 2023     Engine sensor wiring - (8 hours) Category: Avionics
Wired all sensors to the eis. Ran alt field wire to voltage regulator. Made small fuel line from firewall to fuel flow transducer. Ran p-leads to switch, created another hole in firewall. Measured and ordered lines for oil cooler, alt/starter wire, manifold and oil pressure. lines.

Got the right throttle and mixture cable bracket from vans, need to increase hole size. Wired the oil pressure sensor, started wiring the magneto p leads. Wired the fuel flow transducer.

Drilled holes for throttle mixture, prop. Mixture and throttle cables were to long. Wired tach sensor, manifold sensor. Attach prop governor bracket to baffles. Attached baffle clips.

Cut baffles to size, installed cht probes, marked out firewall items that need attached, drill hole for wire pass thru. Drilled holes for pressure sensors mount.

Finally got back on the airplane after vacations. remade the cowling doors and look much better. Cut all the cowl pieces to the correct length

Cantact Clint at vetterman and talked about the mufflers touching the cowling, had me send back just the mufflers to possibly make them smaller.

Received the exhaust and installed, put on lower cowling and th heat muffs are touching or are really close to the cowling, contacted vetterman to see next steps
