Dec 14, 2021     Cad Modeling - (5 hours)       Category: Landing Gear
Continuing to work on CAD model to verify the landing gear, wing attach fittings. Ordered Grove wheels and brakes. Due sometime in January.

Dec 13, 2021     Axles started, more work - (4 hours)       Category: Landing Gear
Sunday Dave and Ed came to the shop to continue fabricating the landing gear pieces. Obviously, this design is not proven, so there is a lot of figuring out and verifying dimensions. CNC program was created, and axles setup on the lathe for turning. Few more tweaks and we will have axles. I am also working on the cad drawings/model to verify the gear attachment weldments.

Dec 07, 2021     Landing Gear Started - (8.0 hours)       Category: Landing Gear
Dave and I started on the landing gear. These are the main legs, with most of the work around the pivot point that mounts to the fuselage.

Nov 23, 2021     Introduction       Category: Research
The Pitts Model 14 was the last airplane designed by Curtiss Pitts. Most believe only 1 airplane exists, which is the prototype built by Steen Aero in Florida, and recently transferred to the Pitts Museum in Arizona. This project is actually a 2nd airplane that was started at the time Curtiss was designing the plane, with the truss drawings and material sent to Todd Ashcroft as a beta build. The basic truss got welded up, but at the time Todd did not get the drawings for the wings and many of the other components and as most know the Model 14 in Florida was never completed and sat untouched for almost 15 years.

Last year a discussion of airplanes to build for aerobatics was started between Jeff Scott and Dave Scmitz. The DR-109 got talked about at which time Jeff contacted Todd about the DR-109 and that email traffic migrated into the Pitts Model 14 Truss Todd has collecting dust. Dave has been wanting a Pitts and Radial engine so this project fit the "dream" with the truss picked up shortly after. With a little research and persistence a copy of the missing drawings was acquired.

With the other Model 14 in the museum now and assumed to be a static display, we are hoping this with be the first (and maybe only) flying Model 14. Stay tuned.
