Bryce and Scott took a run at covering the rudder—poly fiber and lightweight fabric. Curved top surface proved challenging. Also learned about reinforcing panels around connect points. Tightened at 320 deg. Pretty satisfied but not perfect by any stretch.

Completed the modification to the ailerons, shortening chord length from 14 in to 11 in per Kolb recommendation. Tube bending and cutting plus shaping and riveting spars. Now ready for covering.

We covered the vertical stabilizer using the poly fiber system. This is the first flight part after a couple workshops practicing. Bryce, Patrick, Jim, Dwayne and Scott doing the work.

Also got started on the aileron project to shorten the rib length from 14 in to 11 inches. Tube bending and rib shortening and fastener work.

We flew up to Arthur Dunn earlier this month and procured a Rotax 503 for the Firefly. Bigger than the baseline Rotax 447 but the reliability and added horsepower deemed a good trade.

Also calculated the fabric yardage (32 yards) so we can order fabric and chemicals to begin the covering job.

Today we had Jonathon, Brice, Kayne and Scott working rudder and elevator hinge fitting. Next step will be covering the rudder, horizontal stab, and elevators using Poly Fiber.
