Mar 10, 2024     Trimmed H Stab TE top skin - (2 hours)       Category: Empennage

Removed 5 corner Rivets on top skin where the left skin overlaps the right in order to trim off 1/8" of TE skin to avoid elevator rubbing. Trimmed skin with shears. Filed and sanded to line. Reinstall 5 rivets. Sanded out scratches on H Stab/Elevator using scotch brite wheel. H Stab and Elevator to be stored for paint.

As per Rans, removed 1/8" from bottom trailing skin on H Stab using shears. Tried 1/16" first with the trim piece curling down. This left some dimples in the side. Elected to take another 1/16" off, however this time used a different offset shears and it curled up. Easier to cut and did a better job. Filed and Sanded to the line. Finish top skins next. Operated the elevator successfully without any rubbing and good clearance.

Installed trim servo, tested operation in both directions. Will have to remove for paint. Elected to trim aft skin on H Stab for improved clearance due to paint. Ckd wing tip clearance between H Stab wing tip and elevator.

Cleco tip skins to elevator tip and match drilled tip skins. Awaiting Cogsdill deburring tool.

  Jan 30, 2024     Elevator Inner tip ribs - (3 hours) Category: Empennage

Attached both inner tip ribs. Used pancake drill adaptor to ream elevator hinges. Thanks RE. Drill 1/2 holes in tip skin. Used GE Neutral Cure Kitchen and Bath Silicone to seal balance panel and inner tip rib.

Fitted Horizontal stab and elevator. Elevator LE rubbed on trailing edges of top and bottom skinof H Stab. Consulted other builders and email Rans. Used bolt and hinges to set gap on hinges on elevator, but still stubborn to get bolt in the hinge. Ran a chuck reamer through the stab hinges, but unable to ream the elevator hinges due to skin.

Bought 12' Scree to level surface blocks. Thanks MO for use of truck. Observed which hinges were not seated flat on trim tab side. Remove hinges on trim tab tab and file long edge. Match drill bottom skins and debur.

Riveted trim tab. Match drill top front skins. Debur and rivet. Almost forgot extra rivets in corner gussets. Used AAPQ-42 for both sides of hinges of trim tabs vs AAPQ-41 due to thickness of metal and previous builder too.
