Apr 26, 2024     Fuselage top coat       Category: Paint / Decals
I masked off in sections so I could spray a more flat surface. Still managed to get some orange peal tho. In hindsight better lighting in my paint booth would have helped with judging the paint flow. I'm hoping I can sand/buff out the orange peal after the paint cures awhile so will soldier on.

Apr 26, 2024     Window frames and door painted       Category: Paint / Decals
The aluminum sheet skins are pull riveted onto the steel tube frames and I didn't want to use countersink rivets with the thin aluminum so I used round head pulled rivets and then filled the holes to seal and look like solid rivets.

Apr 19, 2024     Started some painting       Category: Paint / Decals
Using Stewarts System and liking it. Water clean up, no fumes, and good results when following their directions and videos. I got a little dirt or something on one gear leg so I'll have to sand and redo it but otherwise making good progress

Apr 13, 2024     Trim tab clearance fixed!       Category: Tail Feathers
Before and after pics of one trim tab. Cut about 1/8-3/16 off each end of both tabs and my friend Jerry welded them up.

Apr 10, 2024     Getting some ekofil primer on       Category: Workshop
Am making good progress but hit a snag… I read about this problem months ago but unfortunately forgot about it-when shrinking the fabric on the elevators one has to be careful or the tube framing around the trim tabs could be warped a bit out of shape resulting in interference with the trim tabs. That's what happened to me. My fix will be to remove the fabric from the trim tabs and rework them with welding/filing/grinding as necessary for proper clearance. That will be much easier than recovering the elevators.

Apr 06, 2024     Paint booth       Category: Workshop
I've got all the fabric done except the ailerons which will have to wait for some wing work. So it's time to rearrange my shop and make half of it a paint booth for spraying. Everything is on wheels, so I can roll my bench in or out, the fuselage in or out, or the wings out of the way for now.

Mar 31, 2024     Tail feathers fabric       Category: Fuselage
Closing in on finishing up the fabric on the tail surfaces. Still have the landing gear legs and seats to cover. The ailerons will have to wait until they're fitted up on the wings and trimmed/riveted.

Mar 31, 2024     Some rudder fabric work       Category: Fuselage
The lower rudder hinge needs some backing for fabric support. I made up this two-piece set up.

Mar 25, 2024     Fabric on fuselage       Category: Fuselage
I'm using medium weight fabric for the exterior. First the bottom, then left side, right side, then the top. Rib stitching on the vertical fin and center of roof over the cabin. For the top piece I started at the front windshield channel, working the fabric into the slot with a scrap of plexiglass, then worked my way back to the fin. I decided to wait on figuring exactly where the sight gauges for the wing fuel tanks go until I can get the wings close to position.
