Aug 07, 2004 60 Priming elevator and horizontal stab ribs and skins Category: Paint / Decals
Even though this Sportsman will never be on floats, we started our project alodyning and priming with a super-strong Navy type, a dark green two-part epoxy primer by Sherwin-Williams. There is no doubt this was overkill. (But we did many things on this Sportsman which could fairly be classified as overkill.) We bought an HLVP spray gun from Harbor Freight Aircraft Supply (!) and used Brutus's air compressor. We learned a lot doing this.

You'll note in photo 8817 we held the tiny ribs of the elevator trim tab with Clecos fitted backward in holes drilled in a wooden strip. We got this idea from fellow GlaStar builder Tommy Crump whom we visited for ideas before we started building ourselves.
