Project: I-CAVS     -     Entry

Sep 25, 2022 9 45-15 Cabin Door and Transparencies step 2-3 Category: Fuselage
Closed the right door and held in position in order to have front and back side of the door flush with fuselage. This results in a 2mm misalignment on the bottom of the door which sits inboard of the frame. The rest of the contour is ok, i prefer this compared to the door sitting proud. I will adjust with flox the missing 2 mm on the bottom edge and then make it flush with fuselage.
Operated the latch mechanism, drilled the pilot hole with a #30 and increasing up to 7/16 as required. Used a aluminum angle taped to the fuselage to maintain correct alignment.
Left door similar approach, but unfortunately the end result is opposite....the doors stands a little bit proud along the bottom edge (1,5-2,5mm).
I will proceed with the next steps. I will probably cut a little doubler to offset the hole more inboard. I will first enlarge current holes to proper position. Then i will position the Delrin guides. I will then prepare a small doubler with a correct 7/16 hole and position it in the right location to make the door sit flush with fuselage. Flush rivet will be used along with the original Delrin Block Screws and bolts in order to keep it in place
I tested also the Planearound Cam on the left door and it works like a charm pulling the door gently into position
