Project: I-CAVS     -     Entry

Feb 25, 2023 4 45-19 Cabin doors and transparencies SILPRUF Back Windows Category: Fuselage
Trimmed the sikaflex standoffs, positioned the window a couple of time to have it flush with the fiberglass. Marked the inside again. Masked the inside with the two 3/16" tape.
Sanded the plexiglas with 150 and 220 grit paper. Applied the sikaflex primer and a thin layer of sikaflex. Pulled the tape number 1.
Applied sikaflex generously on the window flange. Positioned the glass and pushed into place. Used clecos to keep in position while cleaning the recess from the excess sikaflex. Checked again flush with canopy. Few clecoes needed to be redialed. i hope i didn't put cracks into the plexiglass as it was impossible to remove and clean it.
Once finished the outside cleaning (it is a messy job anyway), i started the inside spreading the excess. Unfortunately on the back end of the window the masking tap popped out and therefore the sikaflex is covering part of the glass. I tried to remove but it is a lost battle. I will try to remove once is a bit more solid....hopefully i will not to a bigger mess.
