Project: RV14A2021     -     Entry

Jul 15, 2022 5 08-04 steps 1-partial step 7 Category: 8 Horz Stab
Step 1, deburred with deburr tool, file, angle grinder, and pad
Step 2, nested spar cap and did markings 3/16" from end on both sides, lined up with correct top flange spar holes, clamped in place. Match drilled #31, cleco'd along the way, then came back and reamed #30. Removed and deburred, cleaned up. Then repeated for other spar cap. With both spar caps cleco'd back in place, clamped and match drilled #41 the flange holes, cleco'd along the way, and came back to ream #40. Have to watch riveting one side as it had a slight gap that was hard to clamp out.
Step 3, kepted the cap cleco'd on the #30 holes, and cleco'd the doubler to the spar, ensured the non drill holes were cleco'd to ensure I didn't drill them.
Step 4, drilled #31 the common holes and doubler, then came back in and reamed to #30, drilled from web into doubler. Then drilled #12 the 4 holes. Setup the drill press for the 1/4 bit, had to move the press and open the window/took off screen, so I could fit the spar into the press. I was busy and didn't take a picture of that, but I'm sure it looked strange. The two holes were drilled then all put back, so the setting up took way longer than the drill out.
Step 5, set up for countersink #30 for 12 holes, did markings on the spar and double checked, moved depth slowly until flush and tested all with a size 4 rivet.
Step 6, set up for countersink #40 for 9 holes in top and bottom flanges, did markings and double checked against plans, moved depth slowly until flush and tested each after with size 3 rivet.
Step 7, marked parts and disassembled.
