Received most of my wiring supplies from B&C and Steinair. Starting to lay out wiring and aviation harnesses. Pics to come.

Got the Instrument Panel back together and complete other than the mixture cable.

Picked up control cables for front heat, rear heat and card heat. Cut hole for ELT remote. Waiting on mixture cable but cut hole. Had to profile instrument panel for breaker clearance. Was a little too thick to engage threads.

Got a smoking deal on a lightly used set of Acme Pro shocks. Got the fitted up and rigged. Still need safety cables and fab up a landing light mount.

Picked up a sheet of .060 polycarbonate for windows. Cut sides for L21 windows, both upper and lower door and full sliding windows. Have dark lexan for upper windows.

Made a carbon fiber instrument panel. Laid out avionics how I want it and got MGL Avionics ordered.

Ran all my fuel lines. Installed fuel selector switch and fuel flow transducer.

Finally got fuselage back from powdercoat. Started installing pulleys, nutplates for floorboards, fabric formers and trim system.

Finally decided on an engine. 12 month lead time.

Started fitting up bootcowl. Titanium firewall. Used high temp RTV to seal firewall to boot cowl. Just need to buck rivets to complete.

Installed Tank Bay Braces, Fit Fuel tank, riveted in tank cover strips and fitted ailerons on the right wing.

Completed both ailerons. Built a jig to keep them square. Can't have too many clecos when it comes to assembly.

Built a wing cradle out of thin wall 1 1/2" square tubing. Very light and put it on rollers.

Trailing edges all done on left wing. Few odds and ends and this wing will be ready for cover.

Built jig to add washout into wings. Used smart level to get 1.2 degrees washout into wings. About half of Piper specs. Installed leading edges on left wing. Also installed Atlee Dodge tie-down brackets.

Found a cool Australian company that specializes in custom billet buttons for pretty much any application (Billet Automotive Buttons). They are built very well. Took almost a month to receive it but I am very happy with how it turned out. Wanted to go with button start over key start for a few reasons. Will probably have a hidden master shutoff somewhere for security reasons. The button will light up blue when master switch is turned on.

Trammeled both wings. Took my time and got them laser straight. Borrowed a trammel tool and also ran string on rib seam for visual. String never lies. Set drag wires at 1/4” deflection at 8 lbs pull. Torque seal on jam nuts.

Right wing caught up with left. Installed compression struts, drag wires, ribs drilled and screwed to spar (130 total), torque every bolt and applied torque seal. Trammel both wings is next on the list.


 
Oct 31, 2021     Left wing ribs/drag wires - (6 hours)       Category: Wings
( Left wing) Permanently attached ribs to spars with screws. 130 screws total per wing. Installed tank bay drag tube and all drag wires. Criss/crossed drag wires in each bay. Will trammel wing tomorrow.
(Right wing) Attached flap cable pulls and wing root compression tube.

Took huge pile of bare metal parts to local powdercoat guy. Turned out amazing.

Built sawhorses to assemble wings. Spent extra attention to make them all as uniform as possible. Bought a new miter saw just to build these. Build 6 total.

Got COVID so spent the weekend assembling my wing ribs. 34 ribs total.

PStol flaps arrived from Airframes. Very nice work. Will not show them off yet. Will leave them in this nice box until time to fit on wings.

Picked up a PA18 fuselage for my experimental cub project. Has a couple of bent tubes that will be very easy to replace.
