Apr 30, 2024     Left tank pressure test, headlights and lens - (2.5 hours)       Category: Wings
Installed the headlights and lens.

Pressure tested the left fuel tank. Found a leak that needs to be fixed.

Apr 30, 2024     Wing tip - (3 hours)       Category: Wings
Installed rib 14 and match drilled the wing tip.

Apr 28, 2024     Left wing trailing edge, left tank and wing tip rib - (3.5 hours)       Category: Wings
Riveted the left wing trailing edge. Instead of cutting the pop rivet. I've decided to use solid rivet as they are much shorter and will give a better finish anyways. Plus, it will be less work.

Installed the first rib on the tank. This rib needed to have a hole dimpled, but it was too close to the bend. In order to get that dimpled, I had to grind some material off of the die.

Started test fitting the wing tip rib.

Apr 26, 2024     Left Wing skin and tank - (4.5 hours)       Category: Wings
Finished riveting the top skin and sealed the tank.

Apr 23, 2024     Left wing top skin and tank - (3 hours)       Category: Wings
Started riveting the top skin on the left wing, front leading edge and installed the rear tank brackets.

Apr 21, 2024     Left Wing - (7 hours)       Category: Wings
Worked in several areas today:
- unwrapped and deburred the rear tank braces.
- riveted the nut plates to the tank bracket. I replaced standard pull rived with solid rivet.
- unwrapped, deburred, dimpled and mounted the top skin
- unwrapped, deburred, dimpled and mounted the leading edge skin

Apr 20, 2024     Tank cradle - (2 hours) Category: Workshop
Assembled two tank cradles

Apr 14, 2024     Left wing tank - (8.5 hours)       Category: Wings
Dimpled the left tank skin and clecoed it to the tank structure. Then, clecoed the tank to the left wing to match drill. Had the top side match drilled. Need to do the bottom.

Apr 13, 2024     Right tank skin - (11.5 hours)       Category: Wings
Finished deburring and dimpling the skin and started initial assembly for match drilling.

Apr 11, 2024     Right tank - (2.5 hours)       Category: Wings
Started deburring and mocking up the right tank. The front spar had a deep scratch but I was able to removed with a fine scotch brite. Also had an issue with the fuel sender float arm. It's long and interfering with the rib.

Apr 09, 2024     Fuel sender and fittings - (2.5 hours)       Category: Wings
Installed both fuel senders.

Apr 07, 2024     Tank - (2 hours)       Category: Wings
Started fabrication of the main tanks. Installed the rivnuts to rib 2 as well as fittings. I am missing a set of AN6 90degree fittings, but should be able to add them as I'm building the tanks.

Apr 07, 2024     Pitot probe and harness - (6 hours)       Category: Wings
Finished installing and plumbing the pitot tube. Harness is also done with the exception of a set of connectors by the heater controller. I also installed the landing/nav/taxi and accessory harness.

Apr 04, 2024     Pitot tube - (3 hours)       Category: Wings
Installed the pitot tube and control box. I also added a brace to the pitot tube mount to stiffen it up a bit as I was concerned of vibration causing the mast to rub on the wing skin.
I also ordered fittings to hook up the air lines to the pitot an AOA ports.

Apr 02, 2024     Left wing bottom skin - (3 hours)       Category: Wings
Finished installing bottom skin and pitot tube mast.

Mar 31, 2024     Left wing skin - (10 hours)       Category: Wings
Prepared the bottom skins for the left wing. Had some issues with oil canning on this wing as well as clearance from the outboard skin to the first inboard flap hinge bracket. After changing the sequence on how I cleco'd the skin, it's looked much better. I still have some ripple and oil canning, but not as bad.

Also worked on storing the right wing on the ceiling.

Mar 29, 2024     Right wing wiring - (2 hours)       Category: Wings
Ran the right wing harness thru. I added an extra pair of 16AWG wires so I can power up a gopro on the wingtip. Still need to finish zip tying the harness to the J channel. Connectorization will happen when I finish assembly.

Mar 24, 2024     Left wing assembly and headlight frame painting - (6 hours)       Category: Wings
Finished assembling the left wing, with the exception of #13 leading edge rib and headlight frame as I wanted to paint it black. I also removed those parts from the right wing to be painted as well.

Mar 23, 2024     Left wing assembly - (7 hours)       Category: Wings
Started assembling the left wing. Everything went pretty well with the exception of the last rib in this subassembly (rib #13). I can clearly see the rib is an older version and it was modified. The cut is not square and not dressed well. After consulting with other builders, I've decided to move on with this rib as this part is not visible.

Mar 17, 2024     Right bottom skin installation - (14 hours)       Category: Wings
Prepped and started installing the bottom skins. It's almost done. I have a few more rivets to install and it will be done. The biggest surprise was a mistake I made while dimpling the bigger skin. I misfired the dimpler and punched a hole on the skin. I consulted with other builders and they all said I can flatten it. As long as I have two good rivets next to it, I should be good.
While clecoing the skin to the frame, I found that the first rib would not align well (the only one). I checked the bench and jib and everything was leveled. Since everything else aligned perfectly and the rib was not off by much, I decided to match drill rib #1 to the skin.
I also found one hole on the skin and the rear spar was not matched by a lot. I sent a message to Sling and asked if I should drill a new how for that.

Mar 04, 2024     Right Wing assembly complete - (4 hours)       Category: Wings
Finished assembly the right wing frame. All ribs and spars are installed and it's ready to install the bottom skin. I had to correct a couple of issues:
- I installed a couple of rivets to the rear spar that interfered with the rear spar upper skin support channels 1 and 2.
- The support plate for those two parts had the rivets installed in the wrong direction.

Mar 03, 2024     Right wing skeleton - (8.5 hours)       Category: Wings
Assembled the right wing ribs to the spars. Still need to rivet the rear spar and the leading edge ribs. No major issues found. Only challenge was riveting the top rivet to the leading edge spar. The rib flange is on the way and I can't pull it with a standard tool. I modified a nozzle to add an angle. That seems to do the job.

Mar 02, 2024     Right wing jig setup - (2.5 hours)       Category: Wings
Rearranged garage to start assembling the wing. Starting with the right wing.

Feb 28, 2024     Right main spar countersinking - (2 hours) Category: Wings
Finished right main spar countersinking.

Feb 27, 2024     Right main spar countersinking - (1 hour) Category: Wings
More countersinking

Feb 26, 2024     Countersinking left spar - (2.5 hours) Category: Wings
Finished bottom side. Started top side.

Feb 25, 2024     Main spar countersinking - (2 hours) Category: Wings
Countersinking the right main spar, bottom side.

Feb 24, 2024     Rib 11 right, Ribs 14 and main spar - (5.5 hours)       Category: Wings
Finished the right side rib 11 and both ribs 14. Now moving to the main spar counting sinking.
I found another discrepancy on the drawings. On rib 14, the drawing is calling for a hole to be dimpled. However, the hole size is different than what I'm used to. See picture attached for reference. My wife also helped on with this rib.
Spent some time on making a check fixture to make sure the countersink is done correctly. The dimpled sheet metal sits really well with how I have the microstop tool set.

Feb 23, 2024     Rib 11 Left - (2.5 hours)       Category: Wings
Worked on the first rib #11, left side. This assembly is a bit more complex, but not a big deal. I did find the rib (WG-RIB-011-L-F-1) was warped a little, but confirmed with other builders that it's normal. The part will straighten out after installed in the wing.
Also found a discrepancy in the drawing. The number of rivets for HW-RIV-153-X-X-0 listed in the BOM is correct (qty 52). However, the callouts are incorrect. The quantity on the detail drawing showing the bellcrank assembly calls for 22 rivets here it should've been 24. This quantity is actually called out twice in the drawing. The callout on the bottom left is correct.

Feb 16, 2024     Ribs 6, 7, 8 and 10 - (3 hours) Category: Wings
Deburred and clecoed all of these ribs. I could not rivet them because I did not have the dimple dies as they needed to be dimpled. I called Torrance and Scott mailed one the same day. I should be getting it in a couple of days.

Feb 15, 2024     Left rear spar and rib 1 assemblies - (3 hours)       Category: Wings
Finished the second rear spar. Made sure to leave a couple of rivet out on parts 7, 3 and 5 (Page 3) so I can rivet the skin support after installing the ribs. Attached pictures are from the right spar showing the rivets that will interfere.
I also built rib 1 assembly (WG-RIB-001-R-F-2 and WG-RIB-001-L-F-2). Fairly easy assembly to build.

Feb 11, 2024     Twist jigs assembled - (1 hour)       Category: Wings
Simple build. Just had to cleco the jigs together and rivet them in place.

Feb 11, 2024     Parts inventoried - (6.00 hours)       Category: Wings
Inventoried and stored all parts. I'm missing the following:
- WG-DEC-200-X-C-0 (qty 1)
- WG-RIB-214-L-F-0 (qty 1)

Feb 03, 2024     Storage shelving - (5 hours)       Category: Workshop
Build a shelf to store parts from the kit. Still need to build two shelves for the wings today

Feb 01, 2024     Received Wing Kit - (0.5 hour)       Category: Wings
Received the first kit from Torrance. Not much was done other than opening the crates. The parts seems to be well packed and not damage was found. There seems to be parts backordered, but will have to double check during inventory.
