Feb 21, 2024     Spats - (7 hours)       Category: Landing Gear
Finished all three spats.

The right one was removed and the top brake pad inspection hole was added for the grommet.

The left one needed the holes enlarged on the inside plate and ovaled in some cases to squarely hit the rivnut.

The front wheel took a lot of time to get it lined up correctly. The top of rear portion was offset fairly severely when the joggle on both sides were lined up. I had to redrill two of the top holes and shave off some of the material to get it to "pull" the rear edge back to where it lined up with the bottom point of the rear portion. Drilled out the front two holes for the towbar.

Feb 19, 2024     Front Spat - (3 hours)       Category: Landing Gear
Got the front M5 bolt installed and the holes drilled for the M4 bolts and rivnuts. I still need to figure out the best way to drill the rear M5 bolt hole to align with the existing rivnut.

To try and line up the front and rear of the spat as best as possible on the center line, I used a laser on the front to check and on the back put a piece of blue tape on the floor straight back from the center of the tire to align the back.

Feb 15, 2024     Left Side Spats - (3.5 hours)       Category: Landing Gear
After finishing the right side, the left side was a little easier to do. The fiberglass parts on the left were a little different than the right so some other changes were needed. The inside spat did not have a very large build up on the front two bolt areas like the right one did so I used some epoxy and a few small washers to create the same standoff that is needed. The outside spat was about 1/2 inch shorter on top so the inside spat fit better on this left side. Other than that it was the same process. Again I used more rivnuts than the plans called for to ensure a proper fit between the two halves.

Feb 14, 2024     Right Side Spats - (3 hours)       Category: Landing Gear
Finished the right side spat

Cut the holes in both mains and front spats for the tire pressure gromet.

Feb 13, 2024     Right Side Spats - (4.5 hours)       Category: Landing Gear
Once the inside part of the spat was mounted with the 4 M5 screws it was apparent that there was going to be a bit of work to get the fitment good on the larger wheel cover portion. The front side fit fairly well with some sanding, the rear edge was fairly off so I took off a fair amount of material using the scotchbrite wheel. After many adjustments and perceiving to find the best compromise, started drilling holes where I could use the 2.4 mm clecos before upsizing for the M4 bolts. One of the things constantly being checked was the gap around the tire and spat so that it was as even as possible spacing and also that the point of the spat appeared to be straight/tracking with the front of the plane. Inserted with M4 rivnuts with JB Weld epoxy. I put more rivnuts in than the instructions call for to minimize any gaps between the two spat parts.

Feb 12, 2024     Wheel Spats - (2 hours)       Category: Landing Gear
Started drilling holes in the landing gear. The right side inside piece had the correct amount of build up for the angle the front bracket makes. The left side was not built up nearly enough so will need to do a solution for that.

Mar 26, 2023     Inventory Undercarriage & Canopy Finishing Kits - (4 hours)       Category: Landing Gear
Did inventory for both kits
