Dec 29, 2020     Moved wings to Hangar - (4 hours)       Category: Workshop
Borrowed trailer and moved wings to the hangar with the help of Lori. All went smooth and no road rash!

Made a bracket to keep them from moving side ways and denting the trailing edges

Nov 24, 2020     Moved wings...set-up workshop for Fuselage - (3 hours)       Category: Workshop
Moved the wings off the laydown table and put them in their holder. I'll move them out to the Hanger for storage at some point. Kept the laydown tables together and moved the Fuselage over the table. I was able to pick up the front myself but damn...that was heavy. Had to remove the rudder as I'm not 100% sure about how high this is going to be. Also worked on general cleaning and organizing in the workshop.

I made stilts for the mini legs so the Fuselage would not sit on the fiberglass for too long.

Sep 18, 2020     Set-up wing jog - (2 hours) Category: Workshop
Worked on setting up wing jig to remount the wings for their final assembly. Lori helped me put the wings back in them. All went well.

Sep 05, 2020     Moved LH wing and RH wing - (1 hour)       Category: Workshop
Determined I can finish the pitot install later so Lori and I moved the LH wing back into its cradle and moved RH wing on to the lay down table. I took a break from Sportsman Building on Sunday and cleaned the belly of 45GV as it was pretty dirty and needed a good scrubbing.

Jul 28, 2020     Rearranged workshop for next section..installing fuel tanks in wings - (3 hours)       Category: Workshop
Got everything moved around and put back on dolly's. Even found a nice place to store the engine so I don't have to take it out to the hanger. I think bags of dirt will make nice cushy wing holders!

Jul 10, 2020     Rearranged workshop - (5 hours)       Category: Workshop
Took some time to figure out how to fit the fuselage AND the wings into the garage at the same time. With some mental gymnastics and a 25 foot measuring tape...I figure it out. Removed a few work benches and cabinets to the hangar and barn.

I think this will work just fine!

Mar 16, 2020     Built Wing Cradle + tear down wing crate - (3 hours)       Category: Workshop
OMG...the most difficult thing I've done thus far is disassembling the wing crate! That thing had to have weighed around 300 - 400 lbs. The floor was made of 2x6 with plywood on top. The nails were some sort of nail/screw that was shot into the wood making it almost impossible to remove without destroying the wood. It's unfortunate because there was some really nice wood that could have been repurposed. Just like the Sportsman...the crate was designed to take a beating!

I also removed the carpet straps from the wing cradle and replaced it with a sturdy 4" wide tie-down strap from Harbor Freight. It's much more secure and I'm not going to worry about the straps breaking.

On to the RH spar brackets for the jig then start building.

Mar 15, 2020     Built Wing Cradle - (3 hours)       Category: Workshop
Build EAA wing cradle. Also moved all the RH wing parts out of the HUGE crate and tried to disassemble the crate. This is a project that needs more crowbar.

Dec 28, 2019     Step #24 - Position and Drill Lower outboard & Center Main Skins - (1.5 hours)       Category: Workshop
Positioned Outboard and Center skins and all went well. A few errors in Assy Manual in this step. See picture. Ready to trim leading edges then drill ALL hole in these two skins.

Dec 28, 2019     Step #23 - Finish Drilling Upper Main Skins - (3.5 hours)       Category: Workshop
All went well. Lots of drilling and double checking instructions.

Dec 27, 2019     Setup new Band Saw - (1.5 hours)       Category: Workshop
Setup new band saw that my father gave me. Its a nice 50 year old version. I`m installing a 24 TPI blade and variable speed controller.
