Feb 12, 2024     Hangar 4 - WITH HELPER - (15 hours)       Category: Hangar
This weekend was the big moving event! With the help of my wife and friends, we made it! It was a lot of work and a bit of a puzzle sometimes. Huge thanks to Fabinha, Eran, Don, and Daniel! Awesome team!

The move started very early picking up the 26ft U-Haul truck. The first part to go inside the truck was the wings. Very easily carted up the ramp, no issues! But then, I found out that either I got the wrong measurements for the width of the truck or the plane legs spread apart while pushing it backwards onto the ramp, to the inside of the truck.

So we had to remove one wheel and axle completely. The width was okay with bare leg on one side, but the truck deck's height made it quite a challenge. But it worked out fine in the end after a lot of thinking and sweating.

The trip to the airport was slow and steady and everything arrived in perfect condition. Unloading was way easier given the knowledge acquired :)

The next step now is to finish moving tools, benches, etc, and work on setting up the shop at the hangar.

Today I got the hangar. It is a nice spacious hangar but dirty and rusty. I had to make a thorough move in clean up and now things are smelling better, looking better, and the lizard seems to be gone. Yes, there was a large Amazon Racerunner there :)

I was called for a hangar at KFXE and I am starting preparations to move. I've been researching the best way to transport the project and I think my conclusion is to use the 26 feet U-Haul Box Truck. This truck has the lowest deck, enough width, and height, and will protect well the loose parts during transport like the rudder, elevator, wings, etc. I plan to move the entire shop. All tools and parts. The Phase 1 flights will not happen from KFXE but that is the only hangar I was able to get after being on waiting lists of 20+ different places for 2+ years.

I guess that is the lemonade I will be doing. I will assemble the entire airplane and make as many tests and work as possible at this hangar and, for Phase 1, I will then truck the project once again to another airport, in the middle of nowhere. Probably F45, North Palm Beach.

U-Haul 26' box truck door is 87 inches wide and 81 inches high, the deck is 32 inches from the ground and internally, it is 5 inches wider and taller, and the length of the cargo area is close to 23ft / 277 inches.
