Cut and sanded the flanges. Sanded the top cowling and applied micro to spots on the wings. Continued sanding.

Aug 27, 2020     Cowling - (7 hours)       Category: Fuselage
Formed the flange to both wings where the lower cowling will be attached to the wing. Applied one layer of carbon fiber BID with one layer of regular BID to the inside edges of the top cowling to reinforce the edges where I took off too much material when I cut the cowling to fit the wings.

Aug 26, 2020     Sanding - (7 hours)       Category: Fuselage
Sanded bottom of wings, as well as the bottom of the fuselage with 180 grit. Cut cowling in two and applied a stip of carbon fiber BID with one layer of regular BID to the inside edges of the bottom cowling to reinforce the edges.

Aug 25, 2020     Cowling - (6 hours)       Category: Fuselage
Applied two BID layup to the insides of the cowling connecting the top and bottom together. Sanded bottom of wing again where kingbolt covers are placed. Applied another coat of micro.

Aug 24, 2020     Cowling - (7 hours)       Category: Fuselage
Applied two BID layups to cowling sides along length of the cowlings. Applied micro to bottom of wings at the points of the wing bolt covers. Cleaned and covered bottom windows and applied micro to the edges of the windows.

Aug 22, 2020     Cowling - (7 hours)       Category: Fuselage
Cut and fit the bottom and top cowling to the fuselage and secured with clecos. Applied several layups of BID between cowling and wing as first step in forming the seam between the two.

Jul 20, 2020     Sanding - (8 hours)       Category: Fuselage
Cleaned layups from Saturday. Tapped sump tank fuel line connectors and re-installed. Now the gear can move fully without interference. Replaced paper and tape covering over bottom windows. Cleaned windows and recovered. Cut out and replaced PVC pipe used to cover drain valve because the angle changed when bolting in the sump tank after sanding more of the area around the tank to provide more clearance for the gear.

Jul 16, 2020     Sanding - (5 hours) Category: Fuselage
Did sanding and micro filling of the bottom of the fuselage, as well as other small tasks.

Jun 27, 2020     Micro and sanding - (6 hours)       Category: Fuselage
Micro filled the leading edges of the strakes on both sides, as well as created a bead and filled the space where the strake meets the fuselage on both sides. Sanded and prepared all the glass work that needs to be done on the inside of the cabin on Monday.

Jun 13, 2020     NACA Air Vents - (2 hours) Category: Fuselage
Glassed co-pilot side vent.

Jun 11, 2020     NACA Air Vents - (7 hours)       Category: Fuselage
Fit and glued the co-pilot side NACA scoop to the fuselage. Removed pilot side scoop from mold and fit to pilot side vent. Cut and glued 1-1/2” aluminum pipe to NACA scoop. Fit cover for rudder hing and tapped four screws to hold the cover. Riveted, glued and glassed flange to the cover to hold the warm air cable. Began installing vent lines inside the cabin.

Jun 10, 2020     NACA Air Vents - (5 hours)       Category: Fuselage
Continued to spray paint nose compartment. Cut NACA opening on both sides of the fuselage to provide fresh air to the cabin. Glued the 1-1/2” aluminum pipe to the NACA scoop.

Jun 09, 2020     Nose section - (6 hours)       Category: Fuselage

Feb 23, 2020     Spar - (4 hours) Category: Fuselage
Did 6layer layup of Triax on each side of the cabin at the spar as part of the torsion box reinforcement. Removed the molded main gear sleeves from each gear and removed the aluminum foil from the gear legs.

Feb 22, 2020     Spar - (3 hours)       Category: Fuselage
Sanded interior by the spar, glued the foam parts between the engine and gear bulkheads to make up the torsion box. Filled and did glass layups on the aft side of the engine bulkhead where the spar meets the bulkhead (each side).

Feb 20, 2020     Spar - (7 hours)       Category: Fuselage
Prepared and installed the spar and wrapped the main gears to create a molded gear sleeve to be installed in the fuselage later.

Taped the interior windows in prep for micro slurry finishing.

Feb 13, 2020     Bench Back and Spar Leveling - (8 hours) Category: Fuselage
Took apart bench back and the tube wrapped in aluminum foil stuck hard to the glass. It took me a while to get one of the backs (smaller one) free of the hinge tube. Will try to free the other back from the tube. Don't know if I can. I turned the plane around and removed the landing gear. Placed the fuselage on slides and leveled the plane (pitch and roll). Sanded the inside of the engine bulkhead and put the spar in and leveled the spar with the plumb laser level. Will glue the spar in tomorrow after I measure the tips of the spar from the nose.

Feb 12, 2020     Sump Tank, Rear Bench and Windows - (7 hours) Category: Fuselage
Glassed the braces on the sump tank. Glassed the hinge tube to the back of the rear bench. Applied micro slurry to one of the door windows. I did a very bad job. Frustrated and went home.

Feb 10, 2020     Windows - (6 hours) Category: Fuselage
Glassed the edge around the sump tank. Removed more old masking tape from interior window and from each of the two doors. Re-taped the two door windows in preparation for applying micro slurry. Sanded and applied more micro to elevator hinge areas.

Feb 09, 2020     Clean Interior Windows - (4 hours)       Category: Fuselage
Cut edges and sanded sump tank; sanded canard tips and continued to clean masking tape from interior windows. The combination of soaking the tape in WD-40 for a day or more and then using a heat gun at low heat works great to remove old masking tape on plexiglass.
