Jul 22, 2020     Drain pipe - (4 hours) Category: Fuel System
Decided not to combine the water drain to the fuel drain in case the water ever froze in the drain line. Drilled a separate water drain hole for the separate aluminum line.

Jul 21, 2020     Vent lines - (4 hours)       Category: Fuel System
Completed vent line connections. Fit center ceiling overhead fresh air duct and clecoed it in. Fit a drain tube from the fresh air duct where water can enter to connect to the fuel vent line that extends through the bottom of the fuselage. Sanded new opening for fuel drain.

Jul 18, 2020     Sump Tank - (7 hours) Category: Fuel System
Tried to fit sump tank but fuel line connectors still are in the way of full gear movement. Glassed the 4 areas on the ceiling where the door hinges are. Seems people are getting water leaks when it rains so now this area is completely closed.

Jul 17, 2020     Sump Tank - (7 hours)       Category: Fuel System
Installed PVC pipe around fuel drain on bottom of fuselage. Removed sump tank and re-installed vent and fuel connectors so that the sump tank would not interfere with the gear legs when retracting

Jun 29, 2020     Fuel strakes - (8 hours) Category: Fuel System
Sanded interior of cabin in preparation for glassing. Painted with Jeffco both wheel wells. Prepared the four baffles to eventually be placed between the fuel bulkhead and spar. Will install following fuel leak test. Glassed the engine bulkhead where it meets the spar. Prepared all the glass and plastic templates for the layups in the morning.

Jun 26, 2020     Fuel strakes - (6 hours)       Category: Fuel System

May 24, 2020     Fuel strakes - (4 hours)       Category: Fuel System
Painted two fuel strake cells with Jeffco (2 coats). Mixed too much in the first batch and within 45 minutes had an exothermic reaction. Second batch was much smaller and applied second coat easily.

May 23, 2020     Sight gauges - (4 hours)       Category: Fuel System
Glued white plexiglass in place and glued pin hole flange to allow fuel to enter the sight gauge. Prepared rest of strake for painting.

May 22, 2020     Fuel strakes - (6 hours)       Category: Fuel System
Sanded the bulkhead and measured and cut two new holes in each bulkhead to fill with Cabo and eventually fit the pin hole flange for the fuel to enter the gauges. Did more sanding.

May 21, 2020     Sight gauges - (7 hours)       Category: Fuel System
Cut holes in the fuel bulkhead and filled with Cabo to accommodate the brass fitting for the sight gauges. Chad mentioned he had two sight gauges for the Standard Velocity and I looked at them. While smaller they are more professionally made. I calculated that if placed at the bottom of the bulkhead the sight gauges could register between 8 gallons at the bottom to 26 gallons at the top for each wing. That's 20% at the bottom (or 1 hr at max burn) to 75% at the top. This is sufficient for the purpose at hand.

May 20, 2020     Sight gauges - (6 hours)       Category: Fuel System
Sanded and cleaned the strakes. They are ready for painting. Heated and formed two sight gauges using the molds built. They came out ok but not great.
