Jun 02, 2020     shopping - (1.0 hour) Category: Preliminary
trying to find files and future tools for future jobs....right angle drill suggested for rudder rib install. Also spent some time getting parts to repair Jeanne's garage door that is falling apart......not installed properly 26 years ago so door breaking. Spent 1.5 hours patching/re-enforcing top of garage door where lifting mechanism attaches. Also shortened/tightened the chair so not hanging down so much. Reprogrammed the keypad door opener.

May 31, 2020     Reading/finding parts - (1.5 hours) Category: Preliminary
Trying to decide what to start on next. Waiting for Epoxy primer and paint respirator so can varnish all wood parts and start on treating/painting aluminum parts.
Spent time reading steps for controls and rounding up parts.....time killer tying to find parts.....I've misplaced some bearings for the control lever. Will look through all boxes again tomorrow.
Last couple days, havn't felt super spiffy. Did a tough hike yesterday that kind of kicked my ass....MU-2 canyon. Very sore and achy.

May 25, 2020     Reading instruction, Instrument course - (8.0 hours) Category: Preliminary
Eight hours listed is over several days. Spent the time reading through most all of assembly instructions trying to get my head wrapped around all that needs to be done. During build, will try to recall what needs to be done before what. Also to try to anticipate needed items. Right now, need to get epoxy primer, alodine treatment,
Haven't done much on the assembly reading or work on plane as I try tried to finish up my John & Martha King instrument ground course. Spent several days working through 968 review questions and 3 sample FAA exams. Scheduled to take FAA written ground exam on May 27.

May 14, 2020     Reading instruction, shopping for supplies - (4.5 hours) Category: Preliminary
More reading of construction instructions, Had to get a haircut (first in almost 4 months due to COVID-19). Picked up a handle for reamers. Still trying to figure out where to start. Right now, looking at doing finishing work for wood ribs, metal parts, wood flooring, primer painting, Will finish going through instructions and make decisions. Still need to spend time on instrument course.

May 13, 2020     Flaperons stored, parts organization, aluminum paint - (9.0 hours)       Category: Preliminary
I was able mount hooks on garage ceiling to store flaperons up on ceiling joist of garage. Couple of large boxes went upstairs in house to one of kid's room. Picked up an exposed floor bin storage unit at Harbor freight for all the parts, Went together fairly quickly. Will try to organized parts by type of part (i.e., bolts, screws, washers, pop rivets, etc.). Hopefully will decrease search time for parts. Also getting ready to actually start on horizontal stabilizer and elevator rib installation followed by flight controls. Need some premade aluminum parts painted. VERY difficult trying to find Alodine treatment solution but did find that Rust-oleum self etching primer will work on aluminum so will use that.
Still need to go through entire manual and determine build process. Did find check list to be done before covering which will help me determine what parts go in now "for good" that done have to be installed and removed for painting.

May 12, 2020     Reading instruction, shopping for supplies - (9.0 hours) Category: Preliminary
Starting reading instructions, making list for additional needed items, located some of parts needed for horizontal stab and elevator. Then when shopping for some needed supplies....more hooks to hang flaperons on ceiling, some various size clamps, 3M abrasive pads, loctite glue, denatured alcohol for precleaning parts.

May 11, 2020     Inventory more preliminary - (5.5 hours) Category: Preliminary
Finished inventory check. Only two items missing from many 100's of parts. Also returned two hooks didn't use for hanging wings.

May 10, 2020     Inventory and storage - (7.5 hours)       Category: Preliminary
Started today doing more inventory. Got couple more boxes checked in then stopped for brunch. Distracted by needing something from old tool chest and pulled a drawer off runners. Had to fix drawer. Had planned to replace the tool chest because all drawers didn't work well...had to use two hands to pull evenly and runners very stiff. Well, after I repaired drawer and lubricated it, the drawer worked quite well. So, it took 1.5 hours, but I rehabbed all drawers with some grease and all work nice enough now not to have to spend $550+ to replace it.
I remeasured garage, wings and available space on garage ceiling and determined room enough for them. I had some hooks but not big enough. Internet search found some at Lowe's and indicated row and bin section. My friend, Patrick came by to look at kit and spent couple of hours helping me measure, drill and hang both wings up and out of the way.

May 08, 2020     Kit delivery - (5.0 hours)       Category: Preliminary
Kit delivered today. Unpacked boxes from boxes. I don't seem to have enough room to hold all items and still have room to work. Some may have to go into storage at the airport
