May 30, 2024     Section 43 - Engine Installation 6 - (2 hours)       Category: Sec 43 En In
The last part of the electrical installation for the engine was to fabricate the temperature probe's harness and install it on the airplane. This time I decided to fabricate the entire harness at home instead of running wire by wire in the airplane.

After installing the harness I started doing the final lacing of the wire bundles. I finished the lacing from the top of the forward fuselage and the bottom of the panel on the pilot side. In the next work session, I will finish the passenger side underneath the panel and that should be it.

Now I have all wires and hoses ready for the engine installation.

May 27, 2024     Section 43 - Engine Installation 5 - (3 hours)       Category: Sec 43 En In
Today I closed the J244 connector of the GEA 24. The last connector missing is the J242 which connects all temperature probes, CHTs, and EGTs. I spent the day at the hangar putting together the engine hoist and 2 aircraft jacks. now I am ready for the engine installation and ADAHRS calibration. I continued working on the temperature probe harness at home and should finish it in no time, as it is only an 8 2-core wire connection.

In this work session, I continued installing the sensor harness. I closed the J243 connector on the GEA24 and, next, I will be moving on to the CHT/EGT temperature sensor wires.

May 16, 2024     Section 49 - Fuel and Oil System 2 - WITH HELPER - (4.3 hours)       Category: Sec 49 F O S
Today my friend and flight instructor, Eddie, came over to hang out and help with the build. We worked on 3 things: oil cooler, G3X SW update and sensor wiring.

The first task of the day was to install the missing plug for the oil pressure pickup, then we moved on to the oil cooler installation. We riveted together the oil cooler structure and bolted it to the firewall. I decided to install and final torque the oil hoses before installing the engine as things will get tighter in the firewall and I hope I won't need to remove them to finish the installation.

Next, we jumped into the cockpit to install the latest G3X SW. Pretty straightforward task. The G3X system is running version 4.1 now.

To finish the day, we fabricated a wire harness for the manifold pressure and installed it in the GEA24. It was cool to see the PFD showing live Manifold pressure instead of a red cross.

May 07, 2024     Section 49 - Fuel and Oil System 1 - (2.8 hours)       Category: Sec 49 F O S
I began section 49, Fuel and Oil System because I believe some of the hose attachments to the firewall will be much easier to do without the engine in the way. I started with torquing in place the fuel hose. The attachment is a size 8 AN fitting to an elbow pre-installed in the firewall.

Next, I tackled the oil filter system. The oil filter itself had to be prepared for air sealing by installing two rubber seals on the side and attaching 2 AN fittings/elbows with specific clocking, which will favor the hose mounting afterward. The air reaches the cooler through a duct installed in the back of the right rear baffle and it attaches to the cooler using a special bracket that also needs to be sealed from the inside out with RTV.

RTV is drying and the next step will be to attach the cooler to the firewall. I plan on installing the oil hoses already to facilitate the engine installation process.
