Oct 13, 2021     Fitted and Match Drilled Some Rudder Structure/More Deburring - (2.2 hours) Category: 7: Rudder
The main rudder spar requires a fair amount of deburring. The components at the lower end of that spar were fit and match drilled to include the rudder horn. I'm surprised how many components go into building something as simple as a rudder! Fun process :)

Made my first big oops and missed the hole with the dimple tool. Fortunately a replacement part is only going to cost $10! Ugh. Lesson learned I suppose.

Oct 21, 2021     Primed rudder skins and components. Ready for riveting. - (2.0 hours)       Category: 7: Rudder
Scuffed the skins and components and cleaned them for priming. I taped the stiffener rivets in place for back riveting and placed the ribs in their respective places. Tomorrow I'll rivet them in place.

Didn't get much done tonight except pull the material and draw the cut lines on the spar cap material.

After getting the replacement part for the rudder refit and primed, I began the process of final assembly. Was short on time so all I was able to do was cleco the assembly in place and rivet the spar to the spar clips. (Trying to go slow and not make any more mistakes! While not terribly costly, they really slow down progress while you wait for parts!!!)

Decided to go ahead and rivet the leading edge of the rudder even though there was more shear load on the rivets than I had hoped.

After plenty of research I decided to drill out the rivets and try to get a better bend on the rudder leading edges.
 
Nov 09, 2021     Rolled Rudder Leading Edges using "T" Tools - (1.0 hour)       Category: 7: Rudder
This really improved the appearance of these edges!!! I'm going to add a handful of additional rivets where there is some minor pillowing but for the most part it turned out very nice. The rivet fan I ordered yeaterday will help to locate those rivets precisely so I'll wait until it arrives to finish the rudder. Now, back to the horizontal stab!
