Aug 13, 2020     Filler       Category: Fuel System
Applied thin layer of pro seal to fuel filler neck and riveted in place. Performed final fitting of the overflow fuel line and attached to the fuel filler neck. The bottom end was cut at a 45 degree angle and a 1 inch piece of plastic tube place over the end to isolate the overflow line from the hole edges. Filler fuel hose was then attached, completing the fuel system. The rear window was then mounted.

Aug 09, 2020     Fuel tank       Category: Fuel System
Installed fuel tank and attached fuel lines. AN818 nuts torqued to 125 in-lbs. Center console temporally installed. Reassembled painted seat backs.

May 14, 2020     Fuel system and upper firewall       Category: Fuel System
Completed plumbing of fuel filters and pumps. Will need to wait for new fuel system sealing washers per SL-0004 before I torque to final specs. Began fitting of upper firewall, including sealing with pro seal.

May 11, 2020     Completed (almost) rigid fuel lines       Category: Fuel System
Fabricated the remainder of the rigid fuel lines. Fortunately the plans include full size drawings of each line to assist visualizing the bends in 3D. Added fuel drain, pre-filter and fuel pumps. All fuel lines cleaned with compressed air and fittings torqued to 125 in-lbs. Completing the fuel pump/filter assembly (including connecting to the main fuel line) awaits several back ordered parts. Lots of mistakes and left over bits and pieces of fuel line. Learning curve....

May 10, 2020     Fuel line       Category: Fuel System
Fabricated the longest fuel line, connecting the pump/filter assembly behind the baggage compartment bulkhead with the bypass fitting assembly. This line has several bends around the fuel pumps, and is then threaded through multiple bulkheads to the bypass fitting assembly. All went well until I performed the final flair at the forward end. *(&*^((*%^$ I forgot to put on the nut and sleeve. Fortunately there was enough ""slack"" in the bends, I was able to cut off the flair, place the nut and sleeve on the tube and reflair. Time to call it a day!

May 09, 2020     Fuel lines       Category: Fuel System
Added fuel return line. Tortuous and difficult to bend, cut and flair in place.

May 08, 2020     Fuel lines       Category: Fuel System
Pulled tank and added fuel pick up and return fittings. Tested for leaks by sealing all openings, fitting nitrile exam glove over inlet and pressurizing to ~1-2 psi. Then sprayed tank with soapy water looking for bubbles along seams/rivet holes. None found and tank replaced in fuselage (after removing glove). Began fabricating fuel lines.

May 07, 2020     Roll bar and fuel tank       Category: Fuel System
Completed riveting of roll bar support. Installed fuel tank, drilled attach points and riveted nut plates. Roughened, cleaned and pro-sealed firewall/sidewall intersection. Opened engine crate and retrieved fuel pump to be modified for installation.
