I installed the final 8 stainless steel rivets in the firewall. I riveted the firewall to the tabs on the cage. A note to self, do this before you mount all the other items on the firewall :(.

We installed the electrical passthrough that I purchased from Aircraft Spruce. I didn't want to use the rubber grommet that Ran's supplied. We used stainless steel screws to attach and a sealant.

  Sep 20, 2023     Interference of Engine and Nose Gear Mounts - (3 hours)       Category: Firewall

To eliminate the interference Ran's tech support advised moving the the engine mount forward about a 1/4". We could use either wide-area washers or spacers. We tried washers first but the welds on the top of the engine mounts didn't allow the washers to lay flat. Brenden the fabricated spacers. The diameter for the top mounts was perfect for the welds. The bottom mounts the diameter of the spacers was too narrow. In a tech support call to Rans, they agreed to ship 2 more spacers with the same part number as the original one and we will double them up. I ordered 4 new bolts to mount both mounts to the firewall that are each 1/4" longer from Aircraft Spruce.

Taylor mounted the EarthX battery box on the firewall. He then worked on getting the engine mount and the nose gear mount installed on the firewall. We have some questions about the spacers at the bottom of the mounts. Rans shipped 3 spacers but plans only mention using one. One of the engine mount bars touches one of the nose gear mount bars. We have a question in to Rans tech-support.

Chris and Taylor inventoried the FWF kit for the 915is from Rans that I had ordered earlier in the year.

With the ordered rivets we completed the riveting, in fact, because this batch left the mandrel in the rivet head we replaced all the other rivets that the mandrel was missing.

The fit was terrible we ended up using 4 bolts instead of 2 that was suggested we ended having to pound in the bottom bolts. Really concentrated on making sure it was flush against the cage before drilling.
