Apr 29, 2024     Ordered New prop Bolts - (.5 hour)       Category: Propeller

Apr 23, 2024     Sanded Foot of Prop - (6 hours) Category: Propeller
I called Whirlwind and they told me to sand the base of the prop until it fit and could smoothly turn in the hub. Taylor did that and then he and Chris set the initial angle of the prop to 17 degrees. The clamping bolts are not long enough with the larger flange for the 915. I will order the correct bolts on Monday 4/29.

Apr 18, 2024     Tried to Set the Pitch on the Blades - (1.5 hours)       Category: Propeller
I was able to set the pitch on one of the blades but when only I moved to the second I was only able to twist it about 10 degrees. We took the front cover off and swapped blades but it was the heal of the blade. I called Whirlwind and they said that this is not unusual as they bond the heal onto the blade and occasionally they come off oblong. We need to sand the heal down a bit for easier pivoting. That will happen tomorrow or next week.

Nov 14, 2023     Spinner Cut and Mounted - (6 hours)       Category: Propeller
Cut the spinner for the prop blades and match drilled to mounting disc.

Oct 13, 2023     Mounted Prop - (3 hours)       Category: Propeller
We finally received the correct mounting bolts from Whirlwind. The ones they had previously supplied did not take into account the 1 inch spacer that Rans uses on the 915is.

Oct 03, 2023     Installing Prop Hub - (2 hours) Category: Propeller
We struggled to get the Whirlwind prop hub installed on the engine. We have been confused with the Whirlwind manual that Rans sent with the FWF kit. We then noticed it was for the 912 & 914. I then went on the Whirlwind site and downloaded the 915 manual.
Then we noticed that the bolts were about an inch too short with the spacer installed. I emailed Ran's tech support about this issue.

Oct 02, 2023     Installing Prop - (3 hours)       Category: Propeller
Started to attach the prop. We got the spacer installed and fitted the spinner mount we figured out how the hub goes together.
