Aug 12, 2021     Finishing up snall FW items - (1 hour)       Category: Firewall
I want to rivet the FW recess on this weekend. So I went over and riveted the last nut plates.
I've seen other builders put some holding rivets on the F-601E-1 stifferner. I used the size 3 oops rivets for that. The remaining rivets goes through the stifferner and the F-601K-1 FW Recess.

Aug 10, 2021     I can still squeeze a rivet or three - (1 hour)       Category: Firewall
I had a hard time getting squeezer access for one of the brackets. I ended up removing the nutplate then it was easy peazy.

With the support brackets in place I used some cable cut off to align and mark up where I have to make a hole in the heater box so the control cable can reach the heater valve arm.

Aug 02, 2021     Firewall bracket and nut plates - (1 hour) Category: Firewall
Various brackets (heater cable) and nut plates (ANL fuse holder) needed finishing up. Trying to gather up items for priming.

Jul 25, 2021     Firewall review and other outstanding issues - (2 hours)       Category: Firewall
It's been a while since I done anything in the firewall. I needed to take a closer look to get an overview over outstanding items. I need to get to a point where I finish the various attachment points, stiffeners and rivet the recess. Still on the fence for the insulation (Fiberfrax with Titanium cladding). That is why the recess is not showing.

May 22, 2021     Swivel Fittings and Studs       Category: Firewall
I couldn't find any other bug but to fit the 0.070 cables from McFarlane, so I opted for the McFarlane Swivel Fittings and Studs. They come in two sizes or grip and final adjustment can be done with washers. The small diameter washer typically used for AN3 is the one that tightens the control cable grip. The one typically used for AN4 is used to take up the slack around whatever control arm it's push-pulling on. The cabin heat is a thin stainless steel arm and the parking brake is a little beefier.

Nov 08, 2019     McFarlane cables       Category: Firewall
The engraved cables from McFarlane arrived. They look great. I selected the push to release for all three, although alternative air might be implemented as pull and forget.
