Balanced elevator after painting. Insured trim tab, trim motor, arm and cover were installed. Used West Systems epoxy and 3lbs. lead shot. Used 3 pumps of resin and hardener per side. Poured 1.5 lbs in left side using funnel then added similar amount to right side until the elevator balanced.

Installed stick grips after tapping control stick for 4-40 set screw. Used Dawn soapy water to help slide the grips on.

Installed Rear Rudder Cable Return kit. (kit RFK54) Kit was not included in my kit but is now offered as an upgrade.

Final mounting of Garmin GSA 28 Aileron servo mount plate and servo to mount plate. Final connection to aileron cable will be made during rigging of ailerons.
Cleaned shop.

Pinned bottom attach points on brake cylinders. Assembled and installed aileron pulley assemblies in cockpit.

  Feb 07, 2022     Elevator Push Pull Tube - (3 hours) Category: Controls

Drilled and riveted front doubler and rear fitting to elevator push pull tube. Rear fitting took a lot of sanding and finishing to get it to fit properly.
Insured front and rear fittings were parallel.

Marked all boot cowl pieces and stiffeners prior to removal. Match drilled cowl attach flanges to #30. Removed instrument panel, all boot cowl skins and cowling attach flanges and spacers. Test fit floorboard. Trimmed where it interfered with cage tube. Match drilled front 4 rivets tabs to #30.

Located all parts, fabricated required bushings and assembled flap control handle assembly. Test fit in cockpit. Functions normally.

Fabricated 35" elevator push pull tube and test mounted in cockpit.

  Jan 29, 2022     Brake cylinders and elevator push pull tube - (4.5 hours)       Category: Controls

Drilled control sticks for PTT and Trim wires. Installed rubber grommets. Assembled brake cylinder assemblies onto rudder pedals. Pre installed all hardware.
Assembled front elevator push-pull tube with all hardware and bearing fabrication.

Completed inventory of finish kit hardware. Stapled to board. Assembled rudder pedals and rudder pedal control assembly. Assembled control stick torque tube and control rod.

Cleaned/deburred right aileron skin and spar. Clecoed and riveting skin on right aileron.

Finished clecoing Rt Aileron. Match drilled bottom skin to ribs and leading edge of top skin to spar. Removed clecos for deburring and cleaning.

Match drilled skins to rib flanges and spar. Disassembled aileron and deburred skins, spar and rib flanges. Repaired small damaged spot in skin. Reclecoed skins and riveted bottom skin to ribs and spar.

Widened hinge slots in both aileron skins. Bent L Aileron skin. Clecoed skins to ribs and bottom of spar.

Removed clecos from Rt flap. Cleaned/,deburred skins, rib flanges and spar. Clecoed skins and riveted top skin on Rt flap.

Prepared Rt flap and aileron skins. Removed and filed bend tabs. Marked centerline on all bottom rib flanges. Bent top skin with 2" PVC pipe. Clecoed top of skin to ribs and spar.

Matched drilled bottom skin to ribs and spar. Removed all clecos. Deburred bottom skin, ribs and spar interior. Clecoed skins. Riveted top and bottom skins.

Moved Rt wing to cradle. Deburred inside of spar.. Clecoed L. Flap skin to PVC pipe. Rolled top skin 270 (needed 3 people to hold proper pressure on table). Marked bottom rib flange centerline. Clecoed ribs to top skin. (Left first 3 rows of clecoes out to make it easier to insert spar). Inserted spar. Finished clecos. Turned flap over and checked for twist.
