I didn't have the fairings ready to install when we first installed wings so I measured from the lower strut fuselage fitting to the front and rear spat attach fittings. Used this measurement to set position of strut as it would be when installed. Fit fairings and drilled for rivnuts. Also, hung flight controls on wall of hangar until paint.

Verified up and down travel limits and neutral settings. Trim indicator works perfectly. FYI- you configure this indicator in the G3X aircraft and engine configuration section of the system configuration. Then, removed elevator and horizontal stab and hung on wall for safe storage. Moved parts and work tables around shop.

With tank in wing, I measured fuel cap opening, marked center and screwed in template for drilling 3" hole for cap. Marked location of fuel tank quantity fittings with template. Measured for rear pickup fitting. Drilled all holes and deburred. Vacuumed tank out. Installed fuel tank pickup and fuel quantity fittings. Used blue loctite on nuts. Measured and marked top of tank for fuel cap flange. Drilled screw holes and deburred. (On this tank, I drilled the 3/8" hole for the vent at this point. On the left tank, I drilled out this hole for the vent after attaching and prosealing the cap and pressure testing the tank. Doing it this way, the way the plans suggest, I found it difficult to drill the tank and not damage the threads in the inner flange. I had to tap those threads as the bit damaged the first few threads. This time, I drilled the 3/8" hole in the tank first and installed the vent along with the other screws. I will seal this vent hole when I pressure test the tank.) Vacuumed tank again. Installed fuel tank support and inner cap flange with temp bolt. I prosealed underside of cap flange and installed with screws and the vent. Will let setup overnight. (Just a note: I used disposable 10cc syringes to mix and apply the proseal. Seemed to work well and was not too messy).

I installed the fuel tank in the left wing. I connected the fuel line to the rear pickup fitting prior to install. Riveted root rib including the AN3-5A bolt on the top hole of the rear flange. I installed the fuel sight gauge with hose clamps provided. Finally, I applied proseal around cap assembly to form fillet as written in the plans. Left wing construction is complete except for wing tip install. I've decided to wait for Aerosport to offer their new carbon fiber wingtip to make final decision on which tip to install.

Match drilled aileron and flap hinge arms for attachment to ribs and for bellcrank mounting. Fabbed rear rib attach brackets. Riveted hinge arms and bellcrank doubler plates to ribs. Bolted truss to front and rear spars (not torqued yet). Clecoed ribs to front and rear spars.

Fluted ribs for both wings to attempt to straighten. Pressed in bronze bushings for aileron and flap hinges for both wings. (reamed hinge openings to .3115 and pressed bushings with vice. Worked fine). Clecoed hinges, flap teleflex cable support and aileron/flap bellcrank mounts to ribs. Cut out and cleaned up rib rear reinforcing brackets.

Reamed mounting holes in wing trusses. Match drilled and reamed lift strut mount brackets and match drilled to wing trusses. Sorted parts for wing rib build-up.

  May 28, 2021     Wing Build-Up - (5.7 hours)       Category: Wings

Completed fitting of left wing landing light assembly. Marked right wing leading edge with template and cut out leading edge for landing light opening. Filed and cleaned up opening. Measured and drilled for landing light attach brackets. Riveted landing light brackets. Drilled out front spars attach fittings. Drilled hole thru leading edge to rear face of spar with 1/4" bit, then drilled up-size to 23/64"; then reamed with .374 (.001) undersize reamer. 3/8" mounting bolt fit perfectly. Cleaned up holes and temp installed 3/8" mounting bolt and hardware.

Deburred and riveted doublers to rear spar. Match drilled truss attachment bolt holes. Laid out and cut landing light opening in left wing. Not for the faint of heart!

Completed assembly of aileron and flap bellcrank assemblies. Re-safetied one aileron bellcrank bolt. Filed front spar forward spar attach doubler to fit contour inside of leading edge. Laid out all doublers. Riveted doublers onto both front spars and marked rear spars for doubler layout.

Cleaned and deburred wing spars. Washed and degreased spars. Assembled aileron bellcrank assembly- pressed in bearings, assembled and safety wired. Pressed in bearings in flap bellcranks and started assembly. Laid out spar doublers in prep for assembly.
