Fabricated new hinge arm for the cabin heat cable. Secured cable to firewall with adel clamp. Worked perfectly. This was all due to my locating the cabin heat cable on the right side of the panel which resulted in a reverse cable actuation without using this hinge arm to allow cabin heat to be off with cabin heat knob fully forward. Just took some extra time to engineer a solution. Installed parking brake cable per the plans. Hooked up all brake fluid lines but not torqued yet.

Rerouted cabin heat cable. Installed oil cooler assembly. Terminated avionics ground wires. Extended USB power and ground wires to center console. Fabricated engine ground wire and installed. Temporarily hooked up battery plus and minus to master solenoid to test master switch and avionics on main battery power. All worked normally.

Finished mounting cabin heat cable and attaching to heat box. Cable has too much resistance due to extra curves because of locating it on right side of panel. Cable did not actuate flapper correctly. Also, the flapper door will not close completely due to gasket bending back of box and interfering. Will trim gasket to correct this issue. Plan is to relocate cable to come from starboard side and actuate heater. Frustrating day not making any progress.

Secured cabin heat cable to firewall with adel clamp. Need one additional clamp. Assembled hardware to secure cable to heater box. Re-clocked actuator arm. Torqued all engine mount to airframe nuts. Used high temp locking nuts. Removed powder coating on mount lug that has engine ground cable. Spent rest of time sorting out and mounting all engine hardware bags to parts board in preparation for engine install next week.

Drilled instrument panel to 3/4" to mount Throttle and Mixture cables. Reamed firewall pass-through fittings to 19/64 to accommodate these cables. Fit Alternate air cable to panel but need to have shoulder washer to mount properly. Fabricated custom firewall pass-through fitting for cabin heat cable. Test mounted main bus onto side of lower instrument panel support.

Fabricated standoffs then mounted Laser III ignition boxes on firewall. Drilled panel for Cabin Heat and Park Brake cables.

Relocated main bus that I'd previously installed on the cockpit side of the firewall .Turns out I mounted it where the right hand CD ignition box mounts. I will relocate it to the center panel side support near the main battery. Marked and drilled/deburred mounting holes for both ignition boxes. Still need to fabricate the mounting standoff for the ignition boxes. Fabricated and installed the diodes on the Master and Starter solenoids to prevent backflow of current when de-energizing the solenoids. Routed starter, master solenoid and alternator field wires thru firewall pass-through fitting. Also routed the GEA24 engine harnesses (EGT, CHT, Oil press/temp, man. press, fuel press) through the same firewall pass-through fitting.

Installed firewall and top center panel of boot cowl for instrument panel spacing. Fabricated angles for forward, lower panel supports. Mounted gascolator mount. Located grounding block on firewall. Routed and trimmed elevator trim motor wiring.

Temp mounted firewall. Fit firewall wire pass-thru for engine sensor wires. Mounted cabin heater box. Relocated holes for ignition wires. Test fit cabin heater cable for length.

  Jun 01, 2022     Solenoids Pressure Transducer Manifold and Panel Wiring - (4.5 hours)       Category: Firewall

Fabricated and installed copper bus bar between Master and Starter solenoids. This takes the place of the cable. Fit and drilled firewall for engine pressure transducer manifold. Removed boot cowl skins and began organizing instrument panel wiring harness.

Sanded and trimmed boot cowl side and top skins to match firewall flange. Used small belt sander and hand sanding block. Assembled oil cooler mounts. Installed nut plates in forward, lower mount. Temp installed all necessary mounting hardware.

Up sized all holes on firewall flange, top boot cowl and instrument panel visor to #30. Removed cowl attach strip and re-clecoed to prep for trimming the skin overlap on the firewall flange.

Drilled firewall for wire bundle pass through, Alt Air cable, and rudder cable support angle. Assembled rudder cable return pulley that attaches to base of firewall on cockpit side. Started up-sizing cowl attach strips and skins to #30 holes.
